1901 HUDSON All

HUDSON — Saratoga Springs, New York — (1899–1902) — The Hudson Gas Motor & Vehicle Manufacturing Company of Saratoga Springs was incorporated in the early fall of 1899 with $100,000 capitalization. It evolved out of the Mayhew Gas Engine Company at 31 Geneva Street, which was the new firm's address as well. Charles Mayhew was Hudson's chief designer and machinist. Others involved with the company included William P. Tarrant as president, William S. Robertson as treasurer and H. Allison Rood as secretary. This original incorporation notice appeared in the October 4th, 1899 issue of The Horseless Age. Then the firm dropped from the public print for one year. In the November 14th, 1900 issue of The Horseless Age, there appeared yet another reference to a $100,000 incorporation of the Hudson Gas Motor & Vehicle Company.
