HUDSON — SUPER SIX: Although Hudson carried the style and design of its 1925 models in 1926, it was nonetheless an important year for Hudson. Recognition of the role Hudson had played in automotive history in developing the Essex Coach came from The New York Times (Jan 10, 1926) which noted, “The flood of new, small closed sixes is one of the outstanding features of the year … That the light, economical six makes a definite and potent appeal cannot be doubted. Indeed the Hudson and Essex organization has one of the most remarkable achievements of 1925 to its credit in the production of 250,000 cars both makes, almost entirely closed models.” Hudson also moved boldly to expand its corporate base in 1926 with the opening of its new, $3 million body plant whose first product was a revised coach for both Hudson and Essex.
