HUDSON HORNET — SERIES 60/80 — (SIX/V-8) — The 1956 Hornet had the same general styling changes as the new Wasp, but came with richer interior appointments and more standard equipment. All Hornet models had identification nameplates in the V-shaped dip in the side rub rail moldings. Custom trim level Hornets had a continental style spare tire and a chrome enclosed, gold-finished panel just to the rear of the V-shaped dip in the side molding. However, Super Hornets did not use either of these features having the chrome-enclosed rear fender panel painted lower body color. In 1956 Hornet V-8s, the Packard-built engine was used. Ultramatic transmission was again a mandatory option with this particular powerplant. Hornet Sixes came with the famous 308-cid Hudson ‘Championship’ six and could be had with three-speed manual, overdrive, or Hydra-Matic transmission.
