HUDSON HORNET SPECIAL — SERIES 50 — V-8 — On March 5, 1956, the Hornet Special returned. It was a different type of car than the Hornet Special of 1954. The early Hornet Specials represented a cheaper version of the standard wheelbase Hornet. The 1956 Hornet Special had a cheaper price, but was actually something of a high-performance car. It came with a new AMC-built 250-cid overhead valve V-8 in the 114-1/4-inch wheelbase Wasp chassis. Exterior trim and interior appointments were comparable to Super Hornets. Three-speed manual transmission was standard and both overdrive or Hydra-Matic Drive were available at extra cost.
