RAMBLER AMERICAN — (6-CYL) — SERIES 01 — America's recognized economy king was all new in style and beauty for 1961. The American was even more compact than ever and easier to park. Features included all welded, single unit construction, deep-dip rustproofing and a ceramic armored muffler and tailpipe guaranteed to the original owner for the life of the car. Styling features included a new trapezoidal grille insert. It was made of perforated aluminum lattice work. The hood earned a stand-up ‘R’ ornament. The simple rear end design featured circular taillamps and optional round back-up lamps. A new body style was a two-door convertible. Standard equipment on Deluxe models included air cleaner; front armrests; front ashtray; cigar lighter; dual sun visors; turn signals; black floor mats; black rubber cargo mats in wagons; and black tubeless tires.
