1965 MUSTANG — (6-CYUV-8) — One brand-new model and a number of minor revisions were seen in the 1965 Mustang lineup. A 2+2 fastback body joined the hardtop and convertible, creating an expanded ‘stable’ of three pony cars. Perhaps the most significant change for 1965 was the use of an alternator in the place of the previously used generator. Engine choices remained the same as in late 1964, with one exception. The old workhorse 1-block, 170-cid engine was replaced by the 200-cid version as base six-cylinder powerplant. A number of small changes and some new options were seen on the 1965 models. While interior door handles on the earliest Mustangs were secured by ‘C’ type clips, Allen screw attachments were a running production change adopted for later cars.
