F-85 — The F-85 continued to grow in popularity. Traditional full-size car buyers began looking to the Oldsmobile intermediate series. This year there were several sub-groups under the F-85 heading: Standard, Deluxe, Cutlass and 4-4-2. New to the series was the first inline six since 1950. F-85 standard equipment consisted of front and rear seat belts, padded dash, windshield washer, two-speed wipers, back-up lights, outside rearview mirror and vinyl floor covering. Deluxe equipment consisted of all standard items plus foam padded seat cushions, carpeting, chrome roof moldings and Deluxe steering wheel. Cutlass models included all items from the Deluxe list plus bucket or Custom seats, Deluxe armrests and courtesy lamp package. Upholstery was vinyl or cloth. Standard tire size was 7.35 × 14. F-85s built in Lansing, Mich., were coded with an M, while those built in Fremont, Calif., were coded with a Z.
