MARLIN — (SIX/V-8) — SERIES 50 — The 1967 Marlin was longer, lower and wider and had a two-inch increase in wheelbase. The sporty AMC entry retained its distinctive fastback roof styling and semi-elliptical side window openings. It was basically an Ambassador with a fastback roof, instead of being a streamlined Rambler Classic. American Motors hoped to increase Marlin sales by upgrading the car in this manner. It was also quite a distinctive product: a large, six-passenger sports car aimed at the family man with a ‘Walter Mitty’ complex. There were smoother bodysides, a new rectangular gas filler door and Rally lights incorporated into the grille. Side marker lights could be seen on the trailing edge of the rear fenders, just ahead of the wraparound rear bumper ends. A full-length lower body molding helped create a slim appearance and followed the pattern seen on Rebels, arching over both wheelhousings. ...
