NEWPORT SERIES — (V-8) — A new grille for 1970 was formed of short, closely spaced, vertical blades that ran in three horizontal tiers. The rear deck panel was also restyled. It had a concave ‘cove’ treatment, with oblong taillamps banded in chrome, at each end. Standard equipment on Newports included all basic regulation safety features; cleaner air system; 59-amp battery; silenced air cleaner; cloth and vinyl bench seats (all-vinyl on convertibles); carpeting; rear seat ashtrays; wheel covers; H78-15 black sidewall tires and the 383 cid/290 hp V-8. A special order Cordoba model was made available. It came with gold exterior finish; gold vinyl roof; special vinyl interior trim (with Aztec eagle embossment) and Cordoba wheel covers with a similar emblem.
