CHALLENGER SERIES — (6-CYL/V-8) — The Challenger was Dodge's answer to the Mustang and Camaro and was offered in two body styles: a two-door hardtop and convertible. Challengers featured a low profile with a full-width, scoop-like grille opening. Bodysides had the familiar ‘Coke-bottle’ profile, with raised rear fenders tapering down at the taillights. Two large, rectangular tail-lights nearly filled the rear escutcheon panel, with a small, license plate-width aluminum panel left to hold the Dodge name, in block letters. The Challenger Special Edition was the luxury version of the line and included a padded vinyl roof with a small rear window, luxurious interior appointments and special exterior ornamentation.
