1973 AMC Gremlin, V-8

GREMLIN — (SIX/V-8) — The basic Gremlin remained the same as last year's model. About the only significant changes were new safety bumpers and 6.45 × 17 standard sized tires. Equipped with the base 258-cid six, the Gremlin had lots of ‘guts’ and averaged about 20 mpg of gas.,.excellent for 1973. The Gremlin was a lot heavier than other early subcompacts and better-suited to sustained high-speed touring. It was, however, plagued by ills such as carburetion; cooling; squeaking; and rattles. It was also quite prone to rust. New for 1973 were several optional equipment changes. A new bodyside trim design had the stripe ‘hopping up’ behind the rear wheel opening and continuing to the rear of the fender at the higher level.
