1976 AMC Hornet, V-8

HORNET — SERIES 01 — SIX/V-8 — Introduced in 1970 at a cost of $40 million, the compact Hornet, new from the ground up, became one of AMC's best sellers. As in 1975, the Hornet lineup consisted of four models: a two-door hatchback (added for 1973), two-and four-door sedans and a four-door Sportabout wagon. Appearance changed little this year, apart from thin rubber strips placed at lower bumper ends. Hornet nameplates sat behind the front side marker lamps, and on the right rear panel. A 232 cu. in. six with three-speed column shift was standard, 258 six and 304 V-8 optional. Three option packages were available. Sportabouts and hatchbacks could have a ‘Touring Interior’ with individual reclining seats in tan vinyl, matching headliner, visors and door pull straps, sports steering wheel, woodgrain dash overlay and carpeted lower door panels.
