AMX HATCHBACK — SERIES 01 — SIX/V-8 — Reviving a name associated with performance a few years earlier, AMC tried once again to capture a slice of the youth/performance market with a new AMX, first introduced as a Hornet option in 1977. Built on the Concord platform, with an all new, slightly wedge-shaped front, AMX came with a load of appealing features, heavy on black. They included: black fender flares front and rear, rear window louvers, an AMX’ decal just to the rear of the doors, front air dam, painted bumpers with guards and nerfing strips, black scuff moldings, dual flat black mirrors (the left one remote-controlled), color-coordinated slot wheels — plus a blacked out grille with round signal lights and AMX’ emblem in the center.
