CONCORD — SERIES 01 — FOUR/SIX/V-8 — For 1978, the compact Hornet was reworked to become a luxurious Concord, with the same 108-inch wheel-base and four body styles: two-and four-door sedan, hatchback, or station wagon. The hatchback coupe was a particularly attractive design, with huge cargo space. Sporty too, with an optional ‘X’ package. Styling features included rectangular headlamps and bezels a bright six-section Crosshatch grille with clear squarish parking lights behind the outer sections, and tri-color horizontal taillamps. All Concords had front disc brakes, front sway bar, inside hood release, rocker panel moldings, hood ornament, and full wheel covers. Walnut-vinyl inserts accented instrument panels. Base Concords ran with a 232 cu. in. six and three-speed floor shift. Automatic shift and a 304 V-8 were optional plus a four-cylinder engine (formerly on Gremlins alone) early in 1978.
