1979 AMC AMX, V-8

AMX — SERIES 40 — SIX/V-8 — AMX liftbacks entered the 1979 model year sitting on a short (96 inch) Spirit wheelbase, rather than the previous Concord platform. “Expect to be noticed,” the factory declared. To make sure, every AMX had front/rear black bumpers with guards and nerfing strips, a front air dam and rear deck spoiler with accent stripes, front/rear fender flares, a new rectangular blackout grille with center ‘AMX’ emblem, twin remote mirrors, and Turbocast II aluminum wheels with white letter ER60 × 14 radial tires. Eye-catching graphics included ‘AMX’ decals on doors and rear spoiler, plus a huge flame decal on the hood. Quad headlamps sat over clear rectangular signal/parking lights.
