1979 OLDSMOBILE Toronado

TORONADO — SERIES 3E — V-8 — Toronado received a substantial downsizing as well as a substantial price hike. Wheelbase dropped to 114 inches, length to 205.6 (down from 122 and 227.5, respectively, in 1978). Even the car's width was reduced by nearly nine inches. Still front-drive, Toronado had a new steering linkage and power steering gear to improve tight maneuvering. Turning diameter was cut by over three feet. The downsized model weighed about 900 pounds less than its predecessor, and carried four passengers. A 350 cubic inch (5.7-liter) V-8 was standard; optional was the 350 diesel. A total of 8,040 diesel Toronados were produced. Gas mileage was estimated to be about three mpg better than before (city).
