AMX — SERIES 40 — SIX — The ‘AMX’ badge on the grille moved from the corner to the center for 1980, but other changes for the sporty performance AMC model were minor in its final outing. Base engine was the 258 cu. in. six with four-speed manual shift. Standard gear included a GT Rally-tuned suspension system, tachometer, black left remote mirror, sports steering wheel, deep-tone exhaust (with manual shift), dual note horns, and extra quiet insulation. An ‘AMX’ nameplate was on the glovebox door as well as on the grille, rear spoiler, and entry doors. Spoke style wheels held DR70 × 14 white-letter tires. As before, black accents set the tone for AMX. It had black bumpers, guards and nerfing strips; front/rear fender flares with accent stripes; front air dam; grille insert and headlight bezels; door, quarter window and rear window surround moldings; and windshield wiper arms.
