SPIRIT — SERIES 40 — FOUR/SIX — For its second year, Spirit continued with little change except for a new beltline molding on DL sedans, extending just below the front fender nameplates. The original 121 cu. in. four departed, so base Spirits were now powered by a 2.5-liter (151 cu. in.) four from Pontiac, with four-speed manual floor shift, and rode on C78 × 14 whitewalls. A 258 six remained optional, but the V-8 was dropped. Standard equipment included manual front disc brakes, full wheel covers, dual paint stripes, energy-absorbing bumpers, custom steering wheel, lighted ashtray, locking glovebox, Sport vinyl bench seats (buckets in liftback), anodized aluminum bumpers with black end caps, and quad rectangular headlamps.
