1980 OLDSMOBILE Omega, V-6

OMEGA — SERIES 3X — FOUR/V-6 — A far different GM X-body Omega — much lighter (and more expensive) — joined the Olds line this year. It featured front-wneel-drive, with a transverse-mounted 151 cubic inch (2.5-liter) four-cylinder engine. Wheelbase was six inches shorter than the former Omega, 18.5 inches shorter overall. Omega carried five passengers. Weighing 750 pounds less than prior Omegas, it was a clone of the Chevrolet Citation, thus closely related to Buick and Pontiac models as well. Four models were offered: coupe and sedan, in base or Brougham trim. Unlike Chevrolet and Pontiac, Oldsmobile did not offer a hatchback. A sporty SX option was available. A dual vertical-bar grille extended above and below the headlamps, wrapping up into the front-end panel. Vertical park/turn signal lamps stood between the single rectangular headlamps and the grille.
