1983 AMC Spirit, 6-cyl.

SPIRIT — SERIES 40 — SIX — Not much changed on the body of the Spirit in its final year, but it gained bigger tires (P195/75R14 whitewalls), styled wheel covers, and a push-button AM radio as standard DL fittings. The sedan was gone; only the liftback remained. Rather than the previous four, AMC's 258 cu. in. six-cylinder engine (now with knock sensor) became the sole powerplant. Four-speed manual floor shift was standard; five-speed overdrive or automatic (column or floor shift) optional. Mixing the standard goodies from the previous base and DL models, this year's Spirit came with vinyl reclining bucket seats, lighted ashtray (and lighter), front armrest, locking glovebox, dome light, day/night mirror, digital clock, bumper guards, remote left mirror, styled wheel covers, a front sway bar, and extra quiet insulation package.
