1985 OLDSMOBILE Calais, V-6

CALAIS — SERIES 3N — FOUR/V-6 — Though retaining traditional Olds styling cues, the new GM N-body Calais coupe featured a sporty, contemporary design with a formal roof. Front-drive was used, and the car held five passengers. Calais was similar to the new Buick Somerset Regal and Pontiac Grand Am. Two trim levels were offered, intended to appeal to the “style-conscious, quality-oriented, younger car buyer.” Calais featured a wedge shape with soft rounded lines. The hood extended to the windshield, eliminating the cowl panel. The grille had thin vertical bars with a smaller-than-usual center divider that contained no emblem. Rectangular headlamps were used, with park/signal lamps set into the front bumper. ‘Calais’ script went on the leading edges of doors, just above the bodyside molding.
