AURORA — SERIES 3G — V-8 — Even though it was touted as one of the most carefully engineered and best thought-out products launched by Oldsmobile, the 1997 Aurora received several refinements. Among the changes was the addition of an electronic compass in the rear view mirror, enlarged front brakes, redesigned exterior door handles, more “user-friendly” seat belt buckle release buttons, the right-outside mirror gained an automatic tilt-down function to aid backing and improved speakers for the CD sound system. The universal garage door opener became standard equipment. The 32-valve, 250-hp, dual overhead-cam 4.0-liter V-8 linked to an electronically-controlled Hydra-Mafic 4T80-E four-speed automatic transaxle remained the Aurora's standard powertrain.
