1997 OLDSMOBILE Eighty-Eight, V-6

EIGHTY-EIGHT — SERIES 3H — V-6 — After a face lift the year before, the Eighty-Eight received minor refinements for 1997, including the addition of updated Oldsmobile logos inside and out. The Eighty-Eight again was offered only as a sedan in base and LS trim. Standard powertrain remained the 205-hp Series II 3800 3.8-liter V-6 linked to a Hydra-Matic 4T60-E four-speed automatic transaxle. Upgrades included dynamic side impact protection and a new electronically-controlled capacity clutch in the Hydra-Matic transaxle, which replaced the conventional lock-up clutch used previously. Also the powertrain's control computer's memory capacity was doubled, from 256 Kbytes to 512 Kbytes, for enhanced diagnostic capabilities.
