1997 OLDSMOBILE LSS, V-6

LSS — SERIES 3Y — V-6 — The LSS touring sedan was again a stand-alone model for 1997, and received several upgrades including the aforementioned side impact protection, electronically-controlled capacity clutch in its Hydra-Matic transaxle and powertrain computer memory enhancement (256 Kbytes to 512 Kbytes). New-for-1997 features included a new center console, auxiliary power outlet, rear seat heat ducts, redesigned automatic shifter, overhead exit-assist handles, improved seat belt buckle release buttons and Goodyear Eagle LS P225/60R16 tires, which replaced the GA versions used the year before. Standard powertrain was the 205-hp Series II 3800 3.8-liter V-6 with electronically-controlled Hydra-Matic 4T60-E four-speed automatic transaxle. Optional was the 240-hp supercharged version of that engine. With the supercharged 3800 V-6 in place, the final drive ratio was revised from the year before, from 2.97:1 to 2.93:1.
